Specialty Development

Profile Composites has engaged in several programs that have required efficient integration of technologies to realize a specialized product or manufacturing process.

Programs have ranged from rapid prototype injection molding to process development for wind turbine blade manufacture to a school bus seat restraint system.

Wind Turbine Blades

Technology demonstration for vacuum-assisted resin infusion of a glass fiber/vinylester wind turbine blade root spar. In-house manufacture of the thermally-controlled mold facilitated rapid prototype completion.

Process trials achieved approximately 50% reduction in process cycle time for a 4-in thick root transitioning to a 2-in thick spar cap.

Composite Culverts

Composite culverts for 'instant' bridges over environmentally-sensitive streams. We provided tooling, materials, manufacturing development, and design support for this 36-ft wide logging road installation. Demonstration prototype was infusion molded in a fast production cycle and instrumented for 1.5 year performance evaluation.
